The emission data required by UKCA are currently (vn7.7) handled through the UM ancillary system as 'User defined' items. This puts a limitation on the number of emission species. With the addition of chemistry schemes and enhancement UKCA of itself, there is likely to be an increase in the number as well as complexity (vertical/time profiles, source-wise grouping, ..) of the emissions. Shifting these to Section 34 will give the users more flexibility in handling the emissions through UKCA. This process was actually initiated a while ago and a few of the emission items were 'reserved' in Section 34 as well as the UM ancillary system. This list however, now needs to be revisited in view of the recent and planned developments.

The Table below lists the proposed emission species under Section 34 and their requirement for the existing and near-future chemistry schemes.
